In the Grand Mosque of Makkah, Robots are Used for Recitation and Sermons

Saudi Arabia has decided to employ technology in religion as a consequence of the most recent technological deployment by the Presidency of the Two Holy Masjids and has introduced robots that will recite the Holy Qur’an and offer information to tourists at Islam’s holiest site. Furthermore, robots are used for recitation and sermons. This practice is done to assist better Muslim pilgrims visiting Makkah. These robots will also be able to answer Islamic-related queries. According to Arab News, Saudi Arabia decided on this course of action. Visitors to the Kaaba will hear the holy Qur’an read aloud by new robots just publicly presented in Makkah’s Grand Masjid.

Customers can download services onto their mobile devices by scanning barcodes shown on the displays of intelligent robots. Customers may also acquire information about prayers, imams, muezzins, and weekly schedules using the robots stationed around the facility. This article includes the names of the clergy who preach during the Friday services. The administration’s adoption of the robots signals the start of a series of creative technology efforts devoted to the Two Holy Masjids to improve visitor services. These projects aim to enhance the experience of visitors to the Masjids.

The launch is part of a “major strategic plan” to execute the intelligent Haramain project, according to Sheikh Abdulrahman Al-Saudi, Chief of the Presidency, which is responsible for all managemental activities of the Two Holy Masjids. This is in line with the presidency’s Vision 2030 and Strategy 2024 plan to strengthen tourist services. Sheikh Abdulrahman Al-Saudi is also in charge of administrating the Two Holy Masjids. Vision 2030 is a plan executed over the following five years that defines the kingdom’s economy, people, and infrastructure goals.

The recitations, lectures, and azan robot convey to guests the words of the imams and muezzins who serve in the Two Holy Mosques. This objective may be divided into three subgoals. Other intelligent robots developed by Al-Saudis include a disinfection and sterilization robot, a fatwa robot, an intelligent disinfectant robot, and a robot mainly built to clean the surface of the Holy Kaaba. Any of these robots can function without the involvement of a human. The Presidency of the Two Holy Mosques is eager to offer the Grand Mosque high-quality services, leadership, and cutting-edge administrative practices to accommodate the millions of Muslim pilgrims from all over the globe that visit the mosque each year.

Al-Saudis went on to say that the president is committed to staying up with the pace of digital change, promoting the spread of technology, creating a plan for task forces, and guaranteeing that creative culture is sustainable. At various times, the Grand Mosque in Makkah has been furnished with cutting-edge technological equipment. This is not the first time this has happened.

A guided robot designed to assist Muslim pilgrims and answer their queries in eleven languages made its formal debut at the Grand Mosque earlier this year. The robot is programmed to respond to the questions in eleven different languages. A year ago, mosque administrators made the dispensing of Zamzam water more efficient by using mechanized robots. Furthermore, other robots on the ground could offer sterile epidemic control and other associated services. In December 2021, the Grand Mosque of Makkah became the world’s first mosque to deploy an electronic version of the Qur’an. This was done to aid blind or otherwise visually handicapped Muslim worshipers. These actions are being taken as part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s 2024 development plan, which aims to deploy cutting-edge technology in the service of the Two Holy Mosques.
